AT the begining of the game, put one person on foraging duty, and put everyone else at the research table. You can get tech points faster that way. I'd recomend getting level 2 of farming first, then construction.

If the whale washes up on your beach, help it back in. You can get Level 2 Spirituality this way without paying a cent.
